Motion 1:
Purchase of Bar Council building at Subang.
Resolution:
The general consensus was that the Bar Council dispose of the building. It was decided that the matter be left to the discretion of the Bar Council.
Follow-up Action:
The Council decided to rent out the 4 storey building at Subang Jaya and to sell it should there be a good offer so that a more suitable building could be purchased.
M/s Jones Lang Wooton were engaged to sell both the Wisma Central office and the Subang Jaya property which were valued at $330,000 and $900,000 respectively. Meanwhile, the Building Committee of the Bar Council has explored the possibility of obtaining a building close to the courts but have not been successful because of financial constraints. In an attempt to achieve the object of acquiring such a building, the Bar Council put up proposals for comments of members vide circular No. 21/84 dated 22nd December 1984. From the 114 replies received, members are opposed to the proposal for advance subscription on the Building Fund but are receptive to organising dinner for raising the funds.
Motion 2:
To consider whether contingency fees should be legalised.
Resolution:
The matter was put to the vote and carried but lacked a 2/3rd majority.
Motion 3:
To consider increasing Bar Council subscription to $250.00 per annum.

It was decided by majority vote that the subscription for 1983 remain as $175.00.
Motion 4:
To consider proposal to levy $100.00 annual subscription for the Legal Aid Centre.
Proposer: Ms Chew Swee Yoke
Resolution:
It was decided by majority vote that the levy of $100.00 being annual subscription to the Legal Aid Centre be adopted.
