LETTER The ongoing MCA leadership leadership impasse following the Oct 10 EGM has brought to light the true colours of many party leaders. Their greed and the lust for power has allowed MCA members and the public to have a front-row view on how low some of them are willing to stoop.
It is more disgusting to learn that some of these characters who turned against MCA president Ong Tee Keat are also the very ones who were appointed by him into various party positions. They include appointments into the powerful central committee and leadership positions in the various party bureaus.
I do not question the right of these people to take sides. But if they insist on going against a man who elevated them into various party positions, the least they can do is to step down gracefully. It is utterly disgusting in any culture to bite the hands that feed you.
It is a global practice for Cabinet members to step down if they disgaree with the views or policies of their leaders. Shamelessly clingging on to their posts while plotting a mutiny is a heinous act, devoid of any self-respect. I fail to understand why some experienced MCA leaders do not understand the fundamental principles of political gamemanship.
Perhaps their thirst for power has robbed them of their sense of morality. Perhaps they have also forgotten how the Chinese community abhors turncoats and traitors. With scruples thrown out of the window, they have mistaken the president's tolerance and patience as signs of weakness.
The MCA's public image has taken a severe beating following the protracted leadership problems. Let's not aggravate the situation by showing the slightest signs that MCA members are in the party for self-interests and not for the well-being of the community.
It's time these people show to the public that the party is not devoid of politically and morally upright leaders. I hope these people will do the right things and resign.
