WAS at the Seremban 2 court complex recently. The complex made a good first impression but I was appalled to find that the only way to access the upper floor is up a steep staircase. There is no ramp, escalator or lift.

Although the staircase itself is very wide, it is steep and the steps are narrow. The steel bars on either side do not extend the whole way. In any case the bars are too broad and high for one to be able to actually grip them for support.

On my way down, I saw two elderly women clinging with both hands onto the concrete side wall of the staircase and descending one slow step at a time, sideways.

I wonder how such basic considerations for the elderly and less able-bodied have escaped the attention of the architects of this otherwise beautiful landmark.
