KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk
Yong Teck Lee has denied rumours that members of parliament (MP) from the party
would cross over to Pakatan Rakyat.
Yong said SAPP MPs were not among the 16 Sabah MPs who were rumoured to be
crossing over to the opposition coalition Wednesday.
He, however, did not rule out such a possibility in the near future "if issues
affecting Sabahans remained unresolved."
"At the moment, none of our MPs are crossing over. That should be the least of
our concerns.
"The main concerns should be when are (the leadership) going to resolve the
issues affecting Sabahans. "We have brought up this matter to the top
leadership. Now they've got to act fast to show that they are taking this matter
seriously," he told Bernama here Tuesday.
Yong did not say what were the issues affecting Sabahans, but did say that the
"offer" from Pakatan Rakyat for Sabah MPs to cross over, was "attractive enough
to encourage such a move".
Politicians in Sabah had been raising several issues in parliament over the past
one week, including the need for a better representation in the federal cabinet
as well as for the federal government to resolve the illegal immigrants issue.
Earlier, Yong, who is a former Sabah Chief Minister, met Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the parliament house.
