SHAH ALAM (June 26, 2007):
Prosecution witness Uuriintuya Gal Ochir caused a stir when she told the court there is no computer records of her entry into Malaysia with two other Mongolian women, including slain Altantuya Shaariibuu.

She demanded to know why their entry record went missing in the Immigration computers at the KL International Airport (KLIA).

She had earlier sought the court's permission to speak, through the interpreter, at the end of her testimony this evening.

The prosecution had objected to this, but judge Mohd Zaki Md Yasin allowed her to continue.

Uuriintuya: "There was no record of me coming to Malaysia through Beijing? Why?"

Judge: "You were finally allowed to leave the country, why are you complaining?"

Uuriintuya: "Why was my record deleted from the computer?"

DPP Manoj Kurup interjected: "My lord, this court should not be made a forum for the witness to make statements."

Uuriintuya went on speaking in the Mongolian language by expressing her feelings, raising her voice and gesticulating.

This happened seconds after Mohd Zaki excused her from giving evidence after Manoj Kurup had finished re-examining her.

Uuriintuya also ranted that she was held back in KLIA for about two hours by the authorities on Nov 24, 2006, as they refused to let her board her flight after the computers could not display any record of her entering the country.

She had come here with Altantuya and Namiraa on Oct 8, 2006.

Uuriintuya told the court the Immigration officers refused to believe her when she showed them the return air ticket, after being told about her records missing from the data.

Uuriintuya: "They asked me how I came to Malaysia, by sea, by car? So, I showed them my air ticket."

The matter cropped up when she was replying to the DPP's questions on the date she returned to Mongolia and whether Namiraa also went with her.

Karpal Singh, who is holding a watching brief for Altantuya's family and the Mongolian government, addressed the court on the issue.

Karpal: "My lord, we are wondering whether the entry of Altantuya and two others (Namiraa and Uuriintuya) had been obliterated from the computer. I think this is important evidence."

Defence lawyer Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, representing Cpl Sirul Azhar Umar, asked Mohd Zaki whether the court should record Uuriintuya's remarks.

He then asked the court for permission to cross-examine Uuriintuya if the matter was to be ventilated further. The judge allowed him.

Wong Kian Kheong, Abdul Razak Abdyllah Baginda's lawyer, then also applied to cross-examine.

Lead DPP Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah then appealed to Mohd Zaki for the remarks to be expunged as he said it was irrelevant.

Wong: "We feel the same, my lord. We want it to be expunged."

Judge: "Which one is it? OK, OK, the ruling is this. You don't have to cross (while looking at the defence lawyers, Wong and Kamarul Hisham), but it will remain in the record."

Mohd Zaki ended the fiasco with his decision and instructed the next witness to be called.

Private investigator Ang Chong Beng, who was employed by Altantuya, then took the witness stand.

Among other things, he testified that she had demanded RM500,000 from Abdul Razak, a demand made through the latter's private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, when they met in a police station after Altantuya was taken there for causing a ruckus outside Abdul Razak's house last October.

Earlier in the morning, Uuriintuya testified that despite the threat from Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, through a private investigator and his assistant, to kill Altantuya Shaariibuu and two Mongolian women accompanying her, Altantuya still wanted to see Abdul Razak.

Uuriintuya, the fourth prosecution witness, told the court Altantuya did not want to lodge a police report about the harassment on Oct 19 because Abdul Razak knew many police officers.

During cross-examination, the third accused Abdul Razak's lawyer, Wong Kian Kheong, asked: "Despite the threat by P. Balasubramaniam and K. Suras Kumar that Abdul Razak wanted kill all three of you, Altantuya still wanted to see Abdul Razak?"

Uuriintuya: Yes. She only wanted to see him once.

Uuriintuya agreed that Altantuya had continued to call Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar after Oct 11 - when he allegedly first began to harass them.

She said she went to Abdul Razak's office with Altantuya about five times, the first on Oct 9, a day after their arrival.

Wong: Do you know in 2006 that Abdul Razak was married?

Uuriintuya: I didn't know.

Wong: All the time you were with Altantuya, did you ask her whether Abdul Razak was married?

Uuriintuya: I did not ask.

Wong: Do you agree that since you don't understand English, you don't understand what Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar were threatening, without Altantuya's translation?

Uuriintuya: I saw [his] body language and the translation by Altantuya.

Wong: Suras Kumar came to the hotel room about five times. Do you agree that Suras Kumar came into the room after the threats were made?

Uuriintuya: Yes.

She said they called the hotel management after the fifth (and last) time Suras Kumar went into the room.

She disagreed with Wong's suggestion that on all five times Suras Kumar went into the room, she could have refused him entry.

She also said they did not call the hotel management when he went into the room and slept in one of the beds as they were scared and could not move.

Earlier, Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, counsel for the second accused Cpl Sirul Azhar, asked Uuriintuya if she lodged a police report after the two began to threaten them on Oct 11.

She said: "We wanted to lodge a report but Altantuya said, 'We don't lodge a police report because Razak Baginda knows a lot of police officers."

She said she did not personally lodge a police report.

Altantuya's cousin, Namiraa Gerelmaa, had earlier testified that Altantuya had lodged a police report against Abdul Razak, Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar on Oct 19. Altantuya disappeared on the same night.

Uuriintuya agreed with Kamarul that the threats by Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar were the reason she and Altantuya lodged a police report on Oct 19. She said she was afraid of the threats.

She also said she did not ask Altantuya about Abdul Razak and that Altantuya only said, "He is my boyfriend and I must see him".

Uuriintuya said she knew Altantuya came to Malaysia to see her boyfriend by the name of Razak. She also said Altantuya told her Ang was "helping" her.

Questioned whether she asked Altantuya why it was so hard to meet her "boyfriend" despite going to his office in Bangunan Lembaga Getah Asli four to five times, Uuriintuya said: "As I see her, she looked depressed, so I did not ask."

Kamarul: You also did not ask her why her boyfriend didn't want to see her?

Uuriintuya: She did not tell me herself. So, I didn't want to get involved in her personal life. But I thought to myself she must has reasons to do that.

Kamarul: You did not ask Altantuya (between Oct 9 and Oct 16 or 17) when you went to Abdul Razak's office, when all the harassment and threats were being made, you were scared and there was difficulty seeing her boyfriend, you did not ask Altantuya any question? Do you have any explanation?

Uuriintuya: I was scared and I told Altantuya I wanted to go back to Mongolia, and Altantuya said you two can go back.

The judge intervened and asked: "Did you ask Altantuya why Abdul Razak refused to see her, why it was so difficult to see him and why all this harassment?"

Uuriintuya replied that Altantuya said Balasubramaniam had told her that Abdul Razak had gone to an island with his family.

Kamarul: The reason you never asked anything was because you knew that it was your and Altantuya's intention to blackmail Razak Baginda for money?

Uuriintuya: No.

Kamarul: You knew that Ang Chong Beng (Altantuya's private investigator) was engaged to help (Altantuya) blackmail Abdul Razak and that's why you never asked?

Uuriintuya: I don't agree.

Kamarul: You knew that Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar were trying to stop (Altantuya) from blackmailing Razak Baginda. That's why you never asked Altantuya about Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar?

Uuriintuya: I don't agree (in a raised voice).

Uuriintuya also told the court Altantuya had translated Suras Kumar's threat as "Suras was threatening to kill the three of us by throwing us out of the window and make it look like it is suicide".

She said Altantuya translated this on the first two days (Oct 11 and 12) of the threats, which lasted till Oct 18.

She said she was scared of Suras Kumar who looked "scary".

She also said it was Altantuya who opened the hotel room door to let Suras Kumar in and when he went in, he slept on one of the beds.

She said Altantuya opened the door because Suras Kumar was knocking the door very forcefully and that might wake up the other guests.

She said once he entered, he placed his helmet near the door and went to sleep.

Earlier, Uuriintuya was asked to identify Altantuya's pair of earrings and a diamond-studded gold ring.

She said she saw Altantuya wearing the jewellery and a watch before she went missing after going to Abdul Razak's house on the night of Oct 19.

Despite threats, Altantuya still wanted to see Abdul Razak, says Uuriintuya

SHAH ALAM (June 26, 2007): Despite the threat from Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, through a private investigator and his assistant, to kill Altantuya Shaariibuu and two Mongolian women accompanying her, Altantuya still wanted to see Abdul Razak, a witness told the Shah Alam High Court today.

Short takes of the Altantuya murder trial:

The fourth prosecution witness in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial today, her friend Uuriinthuya Gal-Ochir, told the High Court that their immigration entry records at the KL International Airport had been deleted.

She was referring to her records and that of Altantuya and another Mongolian woman who had travelled to Malaysia together last October. She also said her entry records at the Beijing airport were also missing.

Other testimonies:

  • Denies suggestions that she had come with Altantuya and another Mongolian woman to extort money from Abdul Razak Baginda.

  • She and Altantuya did not lodge police report on the harassment and threats by the private investigator engaged by Abdul Razak because Altuntuya told her the political analyst knew many police officers.

  • That she did not question Altantuya on why she wanted to meet Abdul Razak, despite all the threats they received, and that she was only told he was her boyfriend.

The fifth witness was private investigator Ang Chong Beng, who was engaged by Altantuya. Ang testified that Altantuya had demanded RM500,000 from Abdul Razak, which was conveyed to the latter's private investigator P. Balasubramaniam when they met in a police station.

We did not come to extort money from Abdul Razak, says Uuriintuya

SHAH ALAM (June 26, 2007): Uuriintuya Gal-Ochir, a friend of murdered Mongolian Russian interprter Altantuya Shaariibuu, denied in the High Court here today that she, Altantuya and Altantuya's cousin, Namiraa Gerelmaa, came to Malaysia to extort money from political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.

Uuriintuya, 30, also rejected a suggestion from Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, the counsel for Cpl Sirul Azhar Umar, the second accused in the Altantuya murder trial, that private investigator Ang Chong Beng was hired by Altantuya to help achieve their plan.

The fourth prosecution witness, who continued her testimony today, also refuted another suggestion from Kamarul Hisham she knew private investigator P. Balasubramaniam and his assistant K. Suras Kumar were engaged by Abdul Razak to protect him from them.

Kamarul Hisham made the three suggestions when cross-examining Uuriintuya on why she did not ask Altantuya, 28, anything about Abdul Razak and the harassment from Balasubramaniam and Suras Kumar during their stay in Malaysia in last October.

Abdul Razak, 46, is charged with abetting Chief Insp Azilah Hadri, 31, and Sirul Azhar, 35, both from the police special action squad, of murdering Altantuya between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am on Oct 20 between Lots 12843 and 16735 in Mukim Bukit Raja, Shah Alam.

The political analyst is accused of committing the offence between 9.54am on Oct 18 and 9.45pm on Oct 19 in his Bangunan Lembaga Getah Asli office in Ampang.

Earlier, Uuriintuya was asked to identify Altantuya's pair of earrings and a white diamond-studded gold ring.

Uuriintuya said she saw Altantuya wearing the jewellery and a watch before she went missing after going to Abdul Razak's house on the night of Oct 19.

What happened today (Day 7)

  • Altantuya Shaariibuu's friend Uuriintuya Gal-Ochir testified, continuing from where she left off on Monday. She was later cross-examined by the defence lawyers.

  • Private investigator Ang Chong Beng, who was engaged by Altantuya, summoned as prosecution's fifth witness.
