D. Balakrishnan dan R. Ramasamy, both 36, were alleged to have jointly cheated People’s Insurance Co (M) Sdn Bhd into believing that all information and documents in suits filed by several plaintiffs against the company were true when in fact they were not. Following the claims, the insurance company had paid compensation through Sabah Bank Bhd cheques.
If convicted, the clerks are liable to imprisonment not exceeding 10 years and whipping under Section 420 of the Penal Code. Balakrishnan also faces another charge of attempting to cheat the same insurance company. All the offences were allegedly committed between Nov 1990 and Nov 2001 at the insurance company’s premises, No. 17-21, Jalan Medan Tuanku Satu, Medan Tunku, here. Lawyer P. Selvaraj who acted for Balakrishnan appealed for a lower amount because his client was a diabetic and had to provide for his family while Ramasamy’s counsel, Datuk Baljeet Sindhu, said his client was not in good health. Judge Rozana Ali Yusoff allowed the accused bail of RM40,000 with one surety and fixed Jan 6 for re-mention. Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
