KUALA LUMPUR: The three suspects held in connection with the RM3.5 million robbery at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport have now been detained under the Emergency Ordinance 1969 after their seven-day remand order ended yesterday.

Lawyer K.S. Rathakrishnan, who is representing one of the suspects, said the trio were transferred to the Selangor police headquarters from Batu Pahat yesterday.

"They are now being held under Section 3 (1) of the ordinance which allows the police to investigate them for an additional 60 days," he said.

He said the police were also waiting for a ballistics report.

Earlier, the three suspects were remanded to facilitate investigations into the theft of a vehicle in Yong Peng, Johor, for their involvement in the airport robbery, and for the smuggling and possession of dangerous firearms.

The three suspects, aged 23, 25 and 30, have been remanded four times since their arrest on April 18.

In the April 9 robbery, six men were shot and wounded at KLIA.

Following tip-offs, police picked up four suspects in Johor in three operations.

Police also seized semi-automatic pistols, ammunition, a smoke bomb, handcuffs and two cars.

They also recovered the burnt remains of a Nissan Murano MPV and a BMW 5 Series believed to have been used in the robbery.
