COPIES of an unsigned statement explaining the various situations that could
lead to the “dismissal of the PM” have been circulated within Parliament.
The one-page statement, which found its way to the media room early yesterday,
had been left in the pigeonhole normally reserved for written replies of
ministers and press releases by MPs.
According to the clerk manning a counter near the pigeonhole, a man left the
stack of statements there before the Dewan Rakyat meeting commenced at 10am.
“I thought he was a member of a political party as they leave notices in the
pigeonhole all the time,” he said.
Among others, the statement listed out the conditions leading to the dismissal
of a Prime Minister such as loss of two-thirds majority in Parliament, the
setting up of a caretaker government, anti-defection law and the possibility of
an anti-hopping law being drafted under the Emergency Ordinance.
The statement also claimed that the use of the ordinance is “justified because
collapse of civil government is a form of emergency”.
When told about the statement, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak
“dismissed” it.
“Who wrote this? The PM cannot be dismissed. Whatever happens has to be in the
context of the Federal Constitution,” he said.
Asked if it was possible to enact an anti-hopping law under the Emergency
Ordinance, Najib said he did not know.
“We have no anti-hopping law, so I’m not sure if we can do it under the
Ordinance,” he pointed out.
Tian Chua (PKR - Batu) said: “It’s definitely not from us. Maybe it’s BN
people.”
