KUALA LUMPUR: Senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (pic) has obtained a fresh injunction prohibiting the Malaysian Bar from discussing his conduct in defending Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy conviction.
The new order takes effect Tuesday and will last until the end of the hearing.
Shafee had obtained an ex–parte injunction on Mar 13 to prevent the Malaysian Bar from discussing Shafee’s conduct in relation to Anwar’s sodomy appeal at the Bar AGM on Mar 14 or at any other date thereafter.
Shafee’s counsels Datuk Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin and Hasnal Rezua Merican, who were present at the Appellate and Special Powers Court on Tuesday, also confirmed that a defamation suit had been filed against the Malaysian Bar Council as well as former Malaysian Bar president Christopher Leong, Court of Appeal judge Tan Sri VC George and lawyer Tommy Thomas.
The suit, they confirmed, was filed on Mar 13, the same day their client had obtained the ex–parte injunction.
Thomas and George had proposed a motion on Feb 10 criticising Shafee’s behaviour in defending Anwar’s conviction via a series of roadshows.
The next hearing for the injunction is May 13 while the defamation suit is set for case management on April 14.
