SHAH ALAM, Sat: Selangor has fallen into opposition hands following the loss of
at least 35 states seats out of 56. Parti keadilan Rakyat is expected to
announce its secretary general Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, as the new Selangor
Menteri Besar.
The unofficial results so far has PKR winning 11 out of the
20 seats it contested, with DAP winning all 15 seats contested while PAS won
nine out of the 20 seats contested.
The results are considered a political tsunami as no one expected a loss of this
magnitude for BN.
Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo was clearly shock at the election outcome and was
halted up in a meeting room, at the UMNO state building, for most of the night.
He was seen leaving the building, without speaking to the Press, at 1.40am, for
PWTC, where he is meeting the Prime Minister.
Many opposition candidates who won their seats were equally surprised and
stunned at the results.
To opposition needed just 29 seats to from the state Government with a simple
majority. With 35 seats the opposition is just short of three seats to win a 2/3
majority.
Among the state seats which fell to the opposition are Ijok, Kinrara, Meru,
Sungai Pinang, Kota Alam Shah, Sri Andalas, Bukit Gasing, Port Klang, Pandamaran,
Ulu Kelang, Bukit Gasing, Port Klang,Bukit Melawati, Jeram, Bukit Antarabangsa,
Sri Muda, Kota Anggerik and Batu Tiga.
Datuk Zakaria Md Deros daughter-in-law Roslinda Abdul Jamil, who was BN’s
candidate for Port Klang, was defeated by PKR’s Badrul Hisham Abduallh by 4,407
votes.
Independent Nazir Mansor received only 508 votes and lost his deposit.
Meanwhile Mohd Khir retained his Sungai Panjang state stat with a majority of
more then 5,000 votes.
At least eight Parliament seats have also fallen into opposition hands, they are
Gombak, Kota Raja, Puchong , Petaling Jaya Utara, Subang, Klang, Kapar and Kuala
Selangor.
Tanjung Karang incumbent Datuk Noh Omar retained his seat with a majority of
3,000 votes.
