KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing has denied talk that one of the party's member of parliament was in Permatang Pauh giving support to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the recent by-election.

"That is not true. All our MPs stayed here," Masing, the land minister, said yesterday.

PRS, a component of the state Barisan Nasional, has six MPs, including deputy ministers Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum and Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.

An MP for Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) was also rumoured to have been in Permatang Pauh, giving support to the de facto Parti Keadilan Rakyat leader.

But SPDP deputy secretary-general Paul Igai dismissed the rumour, saying that none of its four MPs would switch support to the opposition.

"All I can say is that such talk is rubbish."

State PKR leader Dominique Ng Kim Ho said he was so busy in the by-election that he did not meet any MP from Sarawak supporting Anwar.

"But I can confirm that a state assemblyman was there."

Ng, who is also the state assemblyman for Padungan, said hundreds of Sarawak supporters helped Anwar in the by-election.

Meanwhile, Masing urged Anwar to respect the wishes of the people who had voted Barisan Nasional to power in the March 8 general election.
