SHAH ALAM: Ten residents of Teratai constituency have lodged a report with the
Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) against their former state assemblyman Yap Soo Sun
over inappropriate spending of the annual allocation meant for the constituency.
The current state assemblyman Jenice Lee, who accompanied the residents to the
agency here yesterday, said they wanted to know how Yap spent the money meant
for the people.
“Almost all of the RM500,000 allocation was spent within 44 days, from Jan 1 to
Feb 13.
“We want to know how was he able to spend RM494,350 within the short period
before the general election,” she told reporters here yesterday.

officer Azian Umar. Looking on are (from left): Lee, Teratai resident Cheng Chie

The residents' report named some 30 parties, including individuals, private
companies and clubs, who received the allocations.
Lee alleged that RM275,000 was paid to a company for various purposes such as
Maal Hijrah, Thaipusam, Chinese New Year celebrations, food and beverage for
surau during Ramadhan and to buy equipment.
A total of RM95,000 was given to a club and RM10,000 for an individual alone,
she said, and questioned why only certain parties received the money.
State ACA director Ja’afar Mahad confirmed receiving the report and said the
agency would look into the matter.
On April 15, Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu was quoted saying that 54
Barisan Nasional assemblymen in the previous state administration finished their
combined annual allocation of RM27mil for 2008 in the first 50 days of the year.
