PETALING JAYA: The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) for electoral reforms has adopted only four out of the 41 recommendations made by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0), its steering committee chairman, Datuk Ambiga Sreenivasan, said in a statement yesterday.

The four recommendations adopted by the PSC and recommended to the Election Commission (EC) are:

- Thorough and independent audit of the electoral roll;
- Allow eligible voters living overseas to vote as absent voters;
- Adopt advance voting for service voters; and
- Use of indelible ink.

In response, the EC had publicly committed to implementing three of the four recommendations, the exception being allowing eligible voters living overseas to vote as absent voters.

Ambiga said Bersih 2.0 is also concerned with recommendations made by the PSC to remove the objection period for nomination candidates and to remove serial numbers printed on ballot papers.

“If implemented, the removal of serial numbers on ballot papers will open possibilities of ballot stuffing,” she claimed.

“To ensure secrecy of the ballot, Bersih 2.0 recommends that not only should the serial numbers be maintained, but also for the ballot papers to be distributed at random,” she said.
