©The Star (Used by permission)KUALA LUMPUR: The police have blamed violent action by protesters for "forcing" them to fire water cannons to disperse the crowd. "They threw all manner of objects at the police and forced their way through to move towards Dataran Merdeka. The PDRM was forced to fire water cannons to disperse the crowd," said KL Police Chief Mohd Mohmad Salleh. He said the protesters pushed on and entered Dataran grounds, causing the police to release tear gas to stop their progress. "We are still in control of the situation," he said during a press conference at 6pm on Saturday. "At 2.50pm, several leaders from opposition parties and NGOs gave speeches to the crowds. "At 2.55pm, the protesters rammed into the barricades set up along Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman," he said. Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
