KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Police will seek Interpol's assistance in
obtaining details on allegations by some Indian media that some of the
terrorists in Wednesday's attacks in Mumbai had used Malaysian addresses to rent
apartments in the Indian city.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the police need to clarify
the genuinity of the allegations before taking further action.
"We must check the genuinity of the facts and the police will go through the
Interpol. It's too early to say anything. It's only a claim by the Indian
newspapers. "Once we obtained the full details on the matter, we will take the
necessary action. Until then we will not interfere into the matter," he told
Bernama when contacted, here Sunday.
Musa also said that the Indian authorities had yet to provide full details
pertaining to the allegations. On the Malaysian credit cards found at the scene
of the attacks, Musa said, one should not make a conclusion based on
allegations.
"We're waiting for feedback from the Indian police," he said, adding that any
preliminary information needed to be verified.
At least 185 people were killed and 295 wounded in the three-day rampage that
occurred at the heart Mumbai.
The number of people killed are expected to rise as security forces carry out
detail inspections.
India's top police officers as well as foreigners were among those who perished
in the mayhem, allegedly planned by Kashmir-based Pakistani militant group.
Meanwhile, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman said the government was
strengthening cooperation and intelligence gathering with other countries to
ensure the country's security was safeguarded.
He said the crisis in several countries such as the terrorist attacks in Mumbai
and the anti-government protests in Bangkok, Thailand, required the country to
remain on the alert.
