KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- Perak Umno Youth continues to question Menteri
Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin's attitude in keeping mum over DAP
chairman Karpal Singh's action of questioning the prerogative of the Perak
Sultan in ordering the reinstatement of Datuk Jamry Sury as Perak Islamic
Religious Department director.
Its chief Zainol Padzi Paharuddin said he was surprised with the Menteri Besar's
silence over the issue which also raised many questions.
"We are surprised why the Perak MB has not stated his support for the Sultan and
has not defended the Ruler over the issue, while the Perak Mufti Datuk Seri
Harussani Zakaria had told Karpal not to question the powers of the Sultan and
Datuk Jamry's reappointment.
"Is he scared of losing his position or is forced to be a puppet to the DAP?"
Zainol Padzi asked in a statement issued here today.
He was responding to Karpal's statement that the Perak Sultan had no right to
interfere in the state government's decisions, including ordering the Menteri
Besar to withdraw the transfer order on Jamry.
He said Perak Umno Youth fully supported the Mufti's statement and regarded
Karpal's action as "belittling the monarchy institution, Islam and the Malays".
Umno Youth national executive council member Datuk Pirdaus Ismail who also hit
out at Karpal for his disrespectful behaviour and stubbornness and for violating
one of the principles of Rukunegara, urged the DAP leader to apologise openly to
the Perak Sultan.
He said the position and sovereignty of the Malay Rulers should remain on a
pedestal and must not be dragged into Karpal's political agenda.
"As a lawyer who understands the constitutional monarchy system and
parliamentary democracy, he should not deny the special role and powers of the
Malay Rulers.
"Even the British colonials understood the position of the Malay Rulers and
their powers, especially over Islam and Malay customs."
He said the law must be used against those who express extreme views, including
elected representatives who made seditious statements which could aggravate
situations.
Pirdaus said Umno Youth cautioned those concerned not to play with fire, and
that the results of the recent general election did not give any quarters the
licence to threaten the pillars of racial unity and harmony in this country.
