GEORGE TOWN: DAP national chairman Karpal Singh has denied calling the police "lazy" and "good for nothing", describing it as a terrible thing to do to the men in blue.

He said an assistant superintendent's report claiming he and party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had uttered the words on Wednesday was untrue.

"I did not say it and I do not use such words. It is a terrible thing to do so," he said.

Karpal also denied he was at a ceramah in Air Itam on the day in question as indicated in the police report.

"I have checked with Lim and both of us are amused as to how the officer could make such a report when we were not even at the ceramah at the venue. I was in Sri Delima and not at Air Itam. It is, therefore, a lie," he said.

Karpal said this when commenting on a statement by George Town district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azam Abd Hamid that the police would call him and Lim to provide statements on the matter.

At a press conference at the state DAP headquarters in Jalan Talipon, Karpal said he and Lim would provide statements at their convenience "and not the convenience of the police because of campaigning".

Karpal, the DAP candidate for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency, said he may also lodge a report on the matter as he took the allegation seriously.

"I take this matter very seriously and will not tolerate lies about me.

"I find this a good case to sue for defamation as he (the ASP) had lied about us."
