IPOH: There was no foul play in the death of drug suspect Choong Soy Soy who was held at the Bercham police station lock-up, say the police.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Azisman Alias said yesterday that statements recorded from the other inmates revealed that Choong had slipped and fallen in the toilet.

He said that between 9am and 10am on June 27, the inmates heard a loud noise in the toilet and found Choong on the floor.

“The suspect was still conscious and able to talk when we found him,” ACP Azisman said.

“He declined to go to the hospital, saying he was all right.”

Choong was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital after policemen noticed that he was bleeding from the nose, ACP Azisman said, adding that Choong fell into a coma two days later and died on Tuesday morning.

He said the case was being investigated as sudden death and police were waiting for the post-mortem report.
