SHAH ALAM: No alcohol will be served or sold at the Shah Alam stadium during the Chelsea-Malaysia football game on July 29.

Selangor Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Committee chairman Elizabeth Wong said yesterday organisers had given their assurance that no alcohol would be sold in the stadium.

"I have spoken to the organisers and they will abide by the regulations," she said after the weekly executive council meeting.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the stadium administration had been instructed to ensure that the organisers and spectators abide by the rules.

Selangor Pas Youth, which brought up the issue recently, has urged that alcohol be excluded in any event where Muslims would be present.

It was reported that the sponsors were organising an online competition which offered grandstand tickets as the prize and an invitation to the hospitality tent outside the stadium where there would be free flow of beer.

Heineken had said that the pre-match event was for guests above 18 and non-Muslims.
