IPOH: The Perak Religious and Malay Customs Council has recorded its
appreciation to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin for accepting
the advice of the Sultan of Perak over the transfer of state Religious
Department director Datuk Jamry Sury.
In a statement issued to the press after the council’s 161st meeting yesterday,
the council said it was thankful the matter had been tackled with care and
wisdom.
Early this month, Sultan Azlan Shah ordered the reinstatement of Jamry after the
latter was removed from the post.
Days later, Nizar apologised to the Sultan for the hasty decision to transfer
Jamry without consulting the Ruler first.
The council also supported Nizar in not allowing and not wanting to be
influenced by outsiders with regards to the administration of the state.
It said the council also wished to see a harmonious working relationship between
the state and palace based on long-standing traditions and customs.
This, it said, was to ensure that the working relationship would be based on
consultation and for the good of the state and its citizens, particularly among
Muslims and Malays.
The council would defend the Ruler’s institution and would be responsible in
defending the honour of the Sultan against those who belittled, humiliated,
questioned and insulted the institution in their speeches or actions.
The council also pledged its loyalty to Sultan Azlan Shah as the head of Islam
in the state and endorsed the stand of Raja Muda Raja Dr Nazrin Shah as council
president to ensure that religious institutions in the state were protected from
being smeared by partisan politics that would split the Muslim community.
