PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik stressed that he has retired from politics
despite reports that he met an MCA leader recently to support his bid for the
party’s top post.
“No one has come to me for advice, nor have I given any. Everyone in the MCA is
my friend and it is only natural that some of us oldies get together once in a
while for some coffee.
“We talk about many things, and it should come as no surprise if we speak of
politics. But let me stress that I am enjoying my retirement and no one can
persuade me to come back,” said the former MCA president.
A Chinese daily recently front-paged a report claiming that Dr Ling had been
approached by an MCA veteran to help secure the party president’s post in the
party polls in October.
Dr Ling refuted such claims, saying that people were just trying to sell a story
that was untrue.
He added that he had no special interest in the party polls and “being an old
politician, I will just observe.”
He was speaking to reporters after announcing the winners of the Mind Mapping,
Memory and 3D Mind Drawing competitions held on July 6 in conjunction with the
Malaysia Festival of the Mind 2008 at the Utar campus here.
Dr Ling, who is Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM) chairman, said such
events would spur the imagination and knowledge of the human mind.
The MMLM will also be holding the Malaysia Festival of the Mind III, a three-day
event starting on Aug 1 at Utar.
Talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and competitions will be held during the
event on enhancing mental literacy.
Admission is free. For details, call 03- 7625 0328.
