KUALA LUMPUR: A recent statement by Pasir Salak MP Datuk Tajudin Abdul Rahman in
Dewan Rakyat has sparked the ire of some and the MCA will be sending a complaint
letter to the Deputy Prime Minister seeking disciplinary action.
MCA Youth secretary-general Dr Wee Ka Siong said the movement, together with
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth and the Federation of Malaysian Clans
and Guilds Youth Associations, condemned the statement by Datuk Tajudin that all
non-Malays were descendants of immigrants to Malaysia.
“His statement has offended the feelings of non-Malays. We should consolidate
our power and not be divided among each other by making such a remark,” he said
at the Parliament yesterday.
He said the award of scholarships was a policy decided by the Cabinet and
Barisanleaders.
“I hope all Barisan leaders would abide by the directives and policies that have
been fixed by the leadership,” he said.
MCA Youth legal bureau chief Gan Ping Sieu said the offensive statement by
Tajudin was also against the existing policy of Barisan.
“We will complain to the Barisan whip (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) and will
consider lodging a police report against Tajudin.
“Under Article 63 of the Federal Constitution, Parliamentary privilege only
allows MPs to express their views in a fair manner and not extend to any
seditious statements,” he said.
On another matter, Dr Wee said the MCA Youth education bureau and SUPP Youth had
submitted 666 and 93 appeals, respectively, to the Higher Education Ministry on
behalf of students who failed to obtain places or courses as well as subjects of
their wish at public universities.
Dr Wee said of the 666 cases, 131 of them had achieved a CGPA of above 3.0.
“Some of them do not only have good academic results but have also done well in
co-curricular activities yet they have failed to get the subject of their wish,”
he said.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung said the ministry would solve
the problems as soon as possible.
