KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti–Corruption Commission (MACC) has set up a task force to develop a system to monitor the asset declaration process for judges following the recent proposal made by Chief Justice Tan Sri Ariffin Zakaria.
The task force will be headed by MACC’s director of the Inspection and Consultancy Division Shaharudin Khalid.
Welcoming the proposal made by the Chief Justice, the Commission in a statement said the unit was for purposes of cooperation, in line with the General Orders and Administrative Order 1993.
Arrifin, in his speech at the Annual Conference of the Malaysian Council of Judges recently, had made the suggestion and said the judiciary was willing to cooperate with the Commission.
Shaharudin said the declaration of assets by the judges would strengthen the judiciary in the country.
He added that the Commission was prepared to assist public and private agencies on various procedures to enhance the integrity of their practice.
The MACC was mandated to lead the fight against corruption as one of the seven NKRAs of the GTP.
