KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court yesterday set Oct 7 to hear a lawyer's explanation for filing a RM30 million suit against a High Court judge.

Lawyer Mohammed Azmi Mohd Said had filed his suit last year, alleging that High Court judge Datuk Mohd Hishamudin Mohd Yunus had been malicious against his client in a civil case.

However, it was struck out by High Court judge Datuk Ramly Ali. The attorney-general then initiated contempt of court proceedings against Azmi.

Yesterday, Azmi, who was representing himself before Judge Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, was supposed to explain that his attempt to sue Hishamudin did not amount to showing disrespect to the judge or scandalising the court.

However, Azmi asked for an adjournment on the grounds that he received the affidavit from the senior federal counsel just a week ago.
He told Maimun that he needed time to do his research to raise three preliminary objections.

Senior federal counsel Preetam Singh said he had tried to send the affidavit and notice of motion to the Seremban-based Azmi earlier but was delayed because he had Azmi's old postal address.
