KUALA LUMPUR: The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) summoned Umno secretary-general
Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to record his statement following the
findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the V.K. Lingam video clip, the
High Court here heard.
Tengku Adnan’s counsel, Datuk Bastian Pius Vendargon, said the ACA’s move was in
respect of a criminal case and made a few days after he filed an application for
leave to seek a judicial review of the commission’s findings.
“Tengku Adnan only gave statement once to the ACA. This is an actual prejudice
to Tengku Adnan,” he said yesterday.
At this juncture, Datuk V.K. Lingam who represented himself also told the court
that he had also been called twice by the ACA to have his statement recorded
after he filed a similar application.
Counsel Datuk Hazman Ahmad, who represented former chief justice Tun Mohd Eusoff
Chin, also told the court that his client had also been called by the ACA
following the commission’s findings.
Vendargon said due to the commission’s findings, there seemed to be sufficient
cause to invoke criminal sanctions against Tengku Adnan.
He said by reading the commission’s findings, it would become abundantly clear
that in summary, the commission had found Tengku Adnan had been involved in a
conspiracy to influence the appointment of judges.
He added that Tengku Adnan, who was called as a witness in the inquiry, was
unaware that he was a subject of the commission’s investigation.
Vendargon was replying to preliminary objections raised by Senior Federal
Counsel Azizah Nawawi on July 16 to strike out the application by five
individuals who sought leave for a judicial review of the commission’s findings.
The applicants were Lingam, tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Tengku Adnan, Eusoff and
another former chief justice, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim.
They wanted certain parts of the commission’s report which implicated them
deleted.
The hearing before Justice Datuk Abdul Kadir Musa continues on Sept 16. -
