LAWASIA Calls for Adherence to Rule of Law in Papua New Guinea Crisis PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 December 2011 09:29am
ImageLAWASIA, the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific, records its concern for developments in Papua New Guinea that see pending civil unrest and ongoing uncertainty over governance of the country.

Whilst it makes no comment on any political matters, it notes the lasting importance of adherence to due process and the rule of law in maintaining stability and security for citizens.

It encourages all parties to put these fundamental principles ahead of all other interests through a demonstrated respect for constitutional and democratic processes, as well as the legal institutions that are set up to maintain them.

It calls on all sides to show restraint and to remain mindful of the essential need to uphold the rule of law in all actions.
