Only minimal medical test done on Anwar, says lawyer Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) is also in favour of an independent forensic investigation team, possibly foreign, to be assigned to help the police investigate the sodomy allegations against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. “For this to be done and in the spirit of truth, I hope the Opposition MPs will ask him to voluntarily give his DNA sample to the police for investigations,” Khairy said in his debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill. On Tuesday, Gerakan Youth chief Datuk Mah Siew Keong had suggested that an independent forensic team and international prosecutors investigate the sodomy allegations to clear doubts of a conspiracy theory. Khairy’s statement and various other allegations against the former deputy prime minister drew flak from Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parliamentarians, putting him in a hot spot. Anwar’s wife and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR-Permatang Pauh) and Mohamed Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak) then stood up to seek clarification. When Wan Azizah finally got the floor, she questioned how Khairy knew the details of the police report that she herself had no idea about. “Why is Rembau asking for DNA from my husband? How can you ask DNA now? How do you know what’s contained in the report? “The case is not yet in court but you ask for DNA. Do you know the contents of the report?” she lashed out at the prime minister’s son-in-law. Khairy then explained that perhaps the details of the report were not provided because Anwar had not made a statement and did not present himself at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters as required. He said: “What triggered me to ask for a DNA sample is because the report was on allegations of sodomy. “We need the DNA. These are sodomy accusations and there were accusations that there was anal penetration, so you have to prove (if there was not) and give the DNA sample for this purpose,” Khairy said, amid the roar of objections from PR parliamentarians. This was followed by Gobind Singh Deo’s (DAP-Puchong) point-of-order accusing Khairy of misleading the House in his statement and questioned if Khairy would stand by his reason of why the report was not given to Anwar and his family. Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said: “I’ve read the Standing Order and I know the rules, so now listen to me because the speaker makes the decision. “If that is what he (Khairy) said, and if that is his stand, that’s his problem. “Maybe he doesn’t understand the procedures,” he said to loud objections from the PR parliamentarians accusing Wan Junaidi of answering on Khairy’s behalf. Mohamed Azmin and Khairy were back at taking swipes at each other right after. First to strike a blow was Mohamed Azmin, who said: “Who is Rembau? If he was not the son-in-law (of the prime minister) he would be nobody.” Khairy replied: “Same goes for you. If you were not a follower of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who would you be?” Gobind then accused Khairy of being a liar and a coward for not taking the opportunity to state if he stood by his statement. “If you dare, repeat it outside. And if he does not stand by it, doesn’t that mean that he is confusing the Dewan? You seem to want to give an explanation on his behalf,” Gobind said, shifting his accusation to Wan Junaidi. Wan Junaidi said: “Yes, I know all of you are clever. I heard accusations coming from both sides. “Who shall we refer to the Rights and Privileges Committee? We will check the hansard tomorrow to see whether the contents are misleading.” Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
