MUAR: Former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng has expressed surprise that
two of his strong supporters were contesting against him for the Bakri MCA
division chief's post in the party elections on Sunday.
He described the move by Tay Khim Seng and Tan Geok San as a “betrayal.”
“Tay and Tan had suggested that I contest the post of chairman of the Bakri
division.
It is strange that they have decided to stand against me at the last minute.
“They have betrayed my group and their action is contrary to the ethics of any
party in the country,” he told reporters here.
Chua claimed that both Tay and Tan had agreed to contest the post of division
deputy chairman to strengthen his group in the run-up to the elections at the
central level.
He said Tan's reason for contesting against him – that Chua had not contributed
much to the division over the last four years – was not true, adding that he had
brought development worth RM10mil to constituents in the area when he was its
MP.
Chua said he was reluctant at first to respond to the accusations made by Tay
and Tan but had to come out with an explanation to enable the party members in
the division to make a decision on Sunday. — Bernama
