SHAH ALAM: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has withdrawn an application for a revision of the open verdict in the Teoh Beng Hock inquest.

DPP Manoj Kurup made the withdrawal application when the matter came up for case management before senior assistant registrar Khairul Nizam Abu Bakar yesterday.

He said the revision application was filed prior to the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh’s death.

“Now that the commission has delivered its findings, there is no need for a revision,” he said.

On July 21, the Royal Commission of Inquiry released a 124-page report that said Teoh had been driven to commit suicide by aggressive, relentless, oppressive and unscrupulous interrogation by three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers.

The three named were Selangor MACC deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim and his officers Mohamad Anuar Ismail and Ashraf Mohd Yunus.

Khairul Nizam then allowed the striking out application.

But Teoh’s family lawyer Gobind Singh Deo said despite the court decision to strike out the application, it did not mean the case was closed.

He said the revision application still stood as they (Teoh’s family) had filed a written submission during the last mention date and had brought the matter to the court’s notice.

Khairul Nizam then fixed Oct 6 for case management to decide on the application’s status.

DAP political aide Teoh was found dead outside Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, where the MACC’s headquarters is located, a day after he was interrogated overnight on July 16, 2009.

Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas returned an open verdict on Jan 5, ruling Teoh’s death was neither suicide nor homicide.
