©The New Straits Times (Used by permission) THERE is no need for the police to formally apologise over the death of 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah as the matter is now with the courts. Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said investigation papers on the case had been handed over to the deputy public prosecutor's office. "As such, the issue of an apology is not relevant. The issue of whether the suspect had conducted any wrongdoing is under the jurisdiction of the courts. "It is, therefore, not appropriate for the government to take any action before the case is decided by the courts," he said in a written reply to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur). Aminulrasyid was shot dead by police on April 26 in Shah Alam after the schoolboy allegedly tried to reverse his car into the policemen. He was driving his sister's Proton Iswara without a licence. It was earlier reported that he tried to escape after his car grazed another vehicle, and that he was allegedly chased by a group of motorcyclists. Seeing the commotion, two patrol cars joined in the chase and ordered Aminulrasyid to stop, but the schoolboy kept driving until he was shot. On the special panel set up to monitor the investigations, Hishammuddin said the panel was satisfied that the investigations had been conducted in a transparent manner and completed in a short time.
