KUANTAN: Action will be taken against those who use the Internet to send or
download video clips of sexual recordings of former health minister Datuk Seri
Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said
yesterday it was wrong for the public to keep or distribute pornographic
materials.
"Do not keep or download the video as you can be charged with possessing or
distributing pornographic materials," he said after presenting cash rewards to
300 top students in his Kuantan constituency here.
He was commenting on the distribution of Dr Chua's video clips through emails
and blogspots.
Although no one has been charged, several people have been
charged with possessing and distributing the DVDs of Dr Chua's sex recordings.
Fu said police would also take action against those who download or distribute
other pornographic materials if there was evidence.
He denied that police were practising double standards when only those who
distributed Dr Chua's sex videos were arrested,
"We (police) have arrested dozens of peddlers with the help of the Domestic
Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
"If the public have information, they should inform us."
On the murder of Tenggaroh state assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy on Friday, Fu
said police were looking for the suspect and urged those with information to
contact them.
He also advised the public not to speculate on the incident or relate it to
other issues as police had yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
He urged the public to remain calm as public safety and security had not been
compromised.
On the effectiveness of the Internal Security Act to curb the Hindu Rights
Action Force (Hindraf) activities, Fu said it had in a way helped contain
illegal demonstrations.
"The situation improved after we invoked the ISA (against Hindraf leaders)."
