KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 -- Former Supreme Court Judge Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin, 75, passed away due to old age on Monday night at the Ampang Hospital, here. His remains would be buried at the Dusun Tua Muslim Cemetery, Hulu Langat after the 'zohor' prayers tomorrow.
Azmi is survived by his wife, four children and two grandchildren. Azmi was among the six former judges who were removed during the judicial crisis in 1988. The other judges who were removed were the then Lord President, Tun Salleh Abas, Tan Sri George Edward Seah Kim Seng, Tan Sri Wan Hamzah Mohd Salleh, the late Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdolcadeer and the late Tan Sri Wan Suleiman Pawanteh. The six were given ex-gratia payments last year. The payment of the ex-gratia was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in April last year in recognition of their valuable contribution and to regain the credibility of the judiciary which had been tainted for the past 20 years.
