©The Star (Used by permission) GEORGE TOWN: A former security guard has been sentenced to death for trafficking in a mixture of 456gm of heroin and monoacetylmorphine at a hotel in Prai. R. Nadarajan, 38, who is charged with another person still at large, was found guilty of trafficking in 238.2gm of heroin and 218.1gm of monoacetylmorphine at 3.30pm in a room at Hotel Prai Jaya on April 30, 2009. In handing down the sentence, Judicial Commissioner Mohd Amin Firdaus Abdullah dismissed Nadarajan’s testimony that he had been exploited by two men to deliver two bags to a third party. He also concluded that it was illogical for the accused not to know the contents of the bags he was found with. “The accused spent three days in the hotel room with the bags. He had ample time to check the contents,” said Amin Firdaus. He said personal belongings, including a picture of a Hindu deity and some clothing, had also been found in one of the drug-filled bags which linked the accused to the substances. At the time of his arrest, Nadarajan was in-between jobs and was scheduled to start work at a factory the very next day. He appeared calm when the sentence was handed down, and there were no family members or friends present in the courtroom. Nadarajan was represented by counsel P. Latsmanan while DPP Nur Sarah Dina Baharudin prosecuted. Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
