A FLYER showing a purported Pakatan Rakyat shadow cabinet, which is being
circulated in Permatang Pauh, was the subject of discussion and mirth among
members from both sides of the house yesterday.
The 22-member cabinet is helmed by PKR de facto leader Datuk
Seri Anwar Ibrahim while Lim Kit Siang, R. Sivarasa and Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee
are the deputy prime ministers.
Lim is also assigned the Home Ministry portfolio while Sivarasa and Yong are
also in charge of the Law and Rural Ministries, respectively. Anwar is also
finance minister.
Sivarasa dismissed the list as a joke and propaganda from Barisan Nasional in
the run-up to the Permatang Pauh by-election.
"Even my name is spelt wrongly."
He felt it was a list circulated to work up Malay sentiment
against Pakatan. Including Anwar, there are only eight Malays in the shadow
Cabinet.
Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is the Minister in charge of Religion,
Pas secretary general Datuk Kamarudin Jaafar (Entrepreneur), Pas infomation
chief Mahfuz Omar (Environment) and Pas central committee member Dr Lo'Lo
Ghazali (Women, Culture and Arts).
Pas deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, said to be the promoter of the Umno-Pas
unity talks, is conspicuously missing.
The other PKR members in the Cabinet are: vice president Azmin Ali (Finance
Minister II), treasurer William Leong (Economy, Trade and Industry), information
chief Tian Chua (Communication and Information), Nurul Izzah Anwar (Youth and
Sports) and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Agriculture).
The DAP has been given eight portfolios: Karpal Singh (Intergrity and Federal
Relations), Dr P. Ramasamy (Education), Dr Tan Seng Giaw (Health), M.
Kulasegaran (Human Resources), Fong Kui Lun (Science and Technology), M.
Manogaran (Foreign), Tan Kok Wai (Works), Chong Chien Jen (Race Relations) and
Tony Pua (Housing and Local Government).
Three slots were left vacant. Presumably they will be filled once the
much-touted crossover of Sabah and Sarawak politicians happen.
Datuk Eric Majimbun (BN-Sepanggar) who collected the flyer while on campaign
rounds in Permatang Pauh on Wednesday laughed it off.
"I went there yesterday (Wednesday) and I picked it up at one of the ceramah."
