POLICE have the power to not disclose the status of an investigation under the Criminal Procedure Code, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.

He said though Section 107A of the code provides for the police to inform the complainant of the status of investigations, the police could refuse if they believe disclosure would jeopardise the investigation or prosecution.

He told Senator Wan Hazani Wan Mohd Nor that the report must be of a seizable offence and that the complainant must make the request four weeks after the report was made.
