KUALA LUMPUR: Nine Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members and supporters have been asked to give their statements at the Arau police station in Perlis on Sept 5.
Party secretary-general S. Arutchelvam said the nine received a letter dated Aug 11, which stated that they were to give their statements as witnesses for a case being investigated under the Sedition Act.
The case is related to a PSM Udahlahtu Bersaralah campaign calling for a change in Government.
Also present at the press conference with Arutchelvam were Sg Siput MP Dr Michael Jayakumar and lawyer N. Surendran, who is representing the nine.
Besides Dr Michael, the nine include PSM central committee members Choo Chon Kai and M. Sugumaran, branch secretary A. Letchumanan and Youth chief R. Saratbabu. They were also among the six who were detained under the Emergency Ordinance for 28 days.
Surendran said he had written a letter to the police asking reasons for the haul up, as there were previous questioning by the police regarding the same matter.
