KUALA LUMPUR: The 26 people, including a newscaster with Astro Awani and a part-time actress, detained during a New Year’s day raid will now be investigated for using and possession of drugs. Urine tests on the newscaster, actress and seven others, all aged between 20 and 30, were positive for Ecstasy and ketamine. Police said further tests would be conducted at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Various drugs, including cocaine and syabu, were found when police stormed a room on the 11th floor of a hotel in Jalan P. Ramlee at 3.30am on Thursday. The party was planned by a newly-wed couple via Friendster, an online social networking site through which the partygoers got to know one another. City narcotics chief Asst Comm Kang Chez Chiang said the 26 have been remanded until tomorrow to facilitate investigations. The 22-year-old newscaster is due to be married next week.
