Policemen patrolling Sitiawan at about 4am on Sunday spotted a Black Naza Citra being driven in a suspicious manner, said Perak deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk A. Paramasivam. “Police followed the car, trying to stop it but the driver sped off and crashed near a bend. “The driver then got out and fired a shot at the policemen, hitting a window of the patrol car,” he told a press conference yesterday. SAC Paramasivam said police returned fire and shot dead the driver, who had been identified as Farid Abdul Hamid, 25, from Ayer Tawar. A .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with three live bullets, a long parang, a small packet believed to contain syabu and a sling bag were found inside the car. “Investigations revealed that he was wanted by the police for fatally shooting a mechanic in Taman Sejati, Sitiawan on Nov 10 last year. “He was also believed to be connected to eight robbery cases, mostly involving luxury cars around Sitiawan and Ayer Tawar from Feb 3, 2011 to June 28 last year,” he said. SAC Paramasivam said Farid had criminal records for drug possession, drug abuse and robbery in 2006, 2009 and 2011 respectively. The car he was driving was reported missing since May 7 last year, he said. A check revealed that the number plate was fake and registered to a Proton Waja instead, he added. In an unrelated case, a cache of bullets was found in a pile of sand behind a house in Anjung Bercham Megah here during a police raid. Narcotics police had been monitoring the single-storey semi-detached house for a week following a tip-off, said SAC Paramasivam. “During that week, there was no activity in the house. We decided to conduct a raid at 2pm on Sunday,” he said. “Although no drugs were found, there was a pile of sand behind the house, where we found a plastic bag containing the bullets.” Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
