KUALA LUMPUR: City police will take disciplinary action against the policeman who allegedly shot tear gas at demonstrators in the car park of Tung Shin Hospital during the Bersih 2.0 rally.
City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamad Salleh said if he was found guilty of unethical conduct or breaching the Standard Operating Procedure, the corporal would be punished accordingly.
“However, for now, he is still performing his duties as a policeman as we have yet to record his statement over the matter,” he said after launching the Brickfields’ Community Policing Programme in Kuchai Lama yesterday.
On Tuesday, a Health Ministry probe confirmed that the police had acted unethically and breached the SOP when dispersing Bersih 2.0 demonstrators at the hospital.
Home Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam had said in a statement that the policeman involved would be referred to the force’s disciplinary committee.
DCP Mohamad also expressed his gratitude to the Government for awarding RM3,000 each to 48,000 ex-members of the special constable and auxiliary police force, who served during the Emergency, as well as their widows and widowers.
