GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) brought down six Chinese street signs that were erected by Gerakan members on Monday.

MPPP president Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman said the signboards were taken down on Wednesday night after a letter was sent to the state Gerakan headquarters instructing them to remove the signs.

“The signs were put up without permission and we removed them after Gerakan members failed to do so,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Asked whether Gerakan would be issued a fine for putting up the signs, Zainal answered ‘No’ and that the issue was closed.

A group of Gerakan members led by former MPPP councillor Dr Thor Teong Ghee had put up six additional road signs around George Town as a reminder to the state government to fulfil their pre-election promises.
