KUALA LUMPUR: Just two months after its formation, the Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC) will be presenting its findings and recommendations to the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) today.
National Patriots Association president Brig Jen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji, who is among the five–member committee, said he was satisfied with the outcome and the time given to come up with the report.
“We received a message saying that all documents are to be submitted on Tuesday (today) when we meet the CEP.
“There’s a lot more to be done but within the scope of our reference. So far I think it’s sufficient,” he said when contacted yesterday.
The setting up of the committee was announced on May 15 by the CEP which said the IRC will help bring about “positive change” in the country.
In a statement then, the CEP had said that the committee will present its findings and recommendations to the CEP, which will then present its report to the Prime Minister.
The CEP also said that while the IRC was set up to advise the Government on economic and financial matters, economic reform on its own cannot bring desired change unless accompanied by institutional reforms.
The committee comprises Mohamed Arshad, retired Court of Appeal judge Datuk K.C. Vohrah; retired Court of Appeal judge and Suhakam commissioner Datuk Mah Weng Kwai; Tunku Abdul Rahman Professor of Law at Universiti Malaya Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi; and Hakam president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan.
