SHAH ALAM: The slippers that had Altantuya Shaariibuu’s bloodstains were not planted inside the four-wheel-drive vehicle belonging to one of the policemen accused of murdering her, the High Court heard.

Lead prosecutor Deputy Public Prosecutor Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah, submitting at the end of the prosecution case, contended that the slippers had been in the vehicle even though a Unit Tindakan Khas squad mate of second accused Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar had not seen them.

Sjn Rosli Ibrahim testified that he did not see the slippers when he helped Kpl Sirul Azhar start the vehicle after the latter went for an assignment in Pakistan on Oct 31, 2006.

“We submit that he actually did not look around inside the car because he started the engine and then left it for half an hour and went for a drink.

“He did not stay in the car but left it running unattended, therefore was it probable that he really looked around inside it?” he said.

DPP Tun Abd Majid denied that there was a gap in the prosecution case as a result of not calling one Deputy Supt Khairi Khairuddin, who Sjn Rosli said had possession of the keys to Kpl Sirul Azhar’s four-wheel-drive vehicle from Nov 3 to 6 in 2006.

He argued that what the defence sought to adduce through DSP Khairi was already in evidence following Sjn Rosli’s testimony.

“It would have been different if the defence put to the prosecution’s witnesses that the slippers were never there and we failed to call Sjn Rosli. But we called him and he had testified in favour of them. Where is the gap then?” he argued.

DPP Tun Abd Majid submitted that there was no way that anyone could have planted the bloodstains on the slippers because both forensic experts who examined the deceased’s remains, which were found on Nov 6, did not find any flesh or traces of fresh or dried blood.

“If what Sjn Rosli said was true that the slippers were not there on Nov 3 and Nov 6, then how could the slippers with the deceased’s bloodstains be there?” he said.

The prosecutor argued that had the police wanted to frame Kpl Sirul Azhar, they could have just taken soil samples from the crime scene and planted them on the vehicle.

The hearing continues today.
