KANGAR: Blog wisely and avoid using the medium to spread rumours.

This was the advice from the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, to bloggers.

He said several bloggers had used the medium for negative purposes, such as inciting and slandering people.

He said this small group of bloggers were inciting readers through their propaganda.

This would lead to ill-feeling among society.

"I urge everyone, particularly the country's graduates, to avoid abusing information and communication technology, especially to spread slander or incite hatred among others," he said during the closing of the IT Awareness Week at Arau Community College yesterday.

He likened blogs to a double-edged sword, saying there was potential for bringing good as well as causing harm.

"Developments in IT have brought tremendous benefits to society, making people's lives more efficient.

"But there are weaknesses despite those benefits. More so if it (a blog) is abused," he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin urged the people of Perlis to continually improve their IT knowledge through local institutions such as community colleges.

He said there was a demand to set up more community colleges in Kangar and Padang Besar.

These new colleges would train more youth on skills related to IT and other fields such as automotive technology and engineering studies.
