KOTA TINGGI, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The investigation papers on the sodomy
accusation against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
are being handled by Solicitor-General Datuk Idrus Harun, Home Minister Datuk
Seri Syed Hamid Albar said.
He said the solicitor-general was handling the matter in accordance with a
decision not to have Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan involved.
On July 1, Anwar had lodged a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA)
alleging that Gani and Musa had fabricated evidence in the investigation into
the 1998 incident where Anwar was punched in a lockup by the then IGP, Tan Sri
Abdul Rahim Noor.
"The Number 2 man (in the Attorney-General's Chambers) is the solicitor-general.
Therefore, he will handle the matter," Syed Hamid said after launching a
National Anti-Drug Agency event at Felda Aping Barat.
He also said that as for the police, the investigation was handled by the Deputy
IGP Datuk Ismail Omar and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk
Bakri Zinin.
Last Thursday, Syed Hamid said the investigation into the sodomy accusation
against Anwar had been completed and the investigation papers had been handed
over to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
Syed Hamid said the government only wanted to seek justice in the matter and did
not want to be seen as being vindictive.
He also said that Anwar would use the forthcoming by-election in the Permatang
Pauh parliamentary constituency in Penang as the platform to defend himself
against the sodomy accusation.
The PKR de facto leader, he said, would turn the media and the people into a
court to determine the verdict.
"He does not want to find a solution through the legal process. He only looks
for a political perception, as though he is being oppressed," he said.
