GEORGE TOWN: The DAP has unveiled an eight-point manifesto with the rallying call: Just Change It.

The party has pledged to:

- ensure safer streets and establish an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission

- provide better living standards

- establish a Malaysian-first economic policy

- provide quality education

- provide a healthy environment for the future generation

- provide gender equality and youth empowerment

- establish a clean government

- ensure democracy and freedom

It also promised a bonus of up to RM6,000 per family for households earning RM6,000 or less per annum.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, launching the manifesto at the party headquarters here, said the RM35 billion for the bonus would come from the RM70 billion profit of Petronas.

He also said the DAP would make provisions for safe and affordable water for the people.

He said the party was confident the people would accept the manifesto, adding that they faced a crucial choice when voting in the next government.

"We either stand condemned for repeating the same mistakes and failures or we can change by rising to the challenges of a new globalised community.

"The Barisan Nasional government has failed to deliver on its promises made in the last election."

Lim, who is making his political comeback by contesting the Bagan (parliament) and Air Putih (state) seats, said the people were fed up with the things that were happening in the country, citing the ineffectiveness of the police in curbing crime, rising prices of goods and a host of other ills.

"We hope the people will support a stronger opposition to provide checks and balances in the government."
