ALOR STAR: An insurance agent and a barber were sentenced to death by the High Court yesterday after they were found guilty of trafficking in 430.94g of ganja and morphine in February last year.
Abdul Salam Abdul Razak and Nasir Hamzah, both 28, were found guilty of trafficking in 376.54g of ganja and 54.40g of morphine at a car park at the Bandar Baru toll plaza in Kulim about 11.15pm on Feb 10.
They were among four people who were earlier charged with the offence, including Salam's wife, bank teller Emy Syazzuanee Jamil, 25, and Mohd Azmin Hamzah, 20, Nasir's younger brother.
However, Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab acquitted Emy Syazzuanee and Azmin after he was satisfied that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against them.
Zaki also said he was satisfied that the prosecution had proved a prima facie case against Salam and Nasir.
After sentencing, all four hugged each other and broke down in the dock before Emy Syazzuanee and Azmin rushed to their respective family members who were present in the gallery.
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Shuhada Mohd Yatim prosecuted.
T. Jayaraj and Burhanudeen Abdul Wahid represented Emy Syazzuanee and Salam respectively while Datuk Hanif Hashim represented Nasir and Azmin.
