KUALA LUMPUR: Good news for all lawyers out there.
The Bar Council has signed the Lawcare Group Insurance policy with Malaysian Assurance Alliance (MAA) to provide better protection for members.
“Life is filled with uncertainties. Like any other profession, lawyers also need peace of mind when carrying out their duties. They are not exempted from misfortunes and the need to feel protected,” said Bar Council president Yeo Yang Poh.
“This policy will definitely benefit all members of the Bar who are in active practice and have been issued the valid annual certificates,” he said at a signing ceremony with MAA.
The Lawcare Group Insurance, with 24-hour worldwide coverage, provides assistance of RM30,000 to the next-of-kin of members in the event of death while in practice.
It also provides financial assistance to members suffering partial and permanent disability, or total and permanent disability arising from sickness, disease or accidents.
MAA deputy president John Leong said the insurance was specially designed for Bar members.
“No enrolment form or medical examination is required and there is a flexible age ceiling (no maximum expiry age for death cover),” he said.
“It is a very good and beneficial deal for both parties and we see it as a long-term partnership.”
The detailed terms and conditions of the policy will be made available to members upon request at the Malaysian Bar secretariat.
