Contributed by Mazni Ibrahim, Officer, Islamic Finance Committee
The Islamic Finance Committee of the Bar Council, in collaboration with the Centre for Research and Training, organised a ‘Workshop on Legal Documentation for Islamic Financing’ in Malacca on 2 to 4 Apr 2010. The three-day workshop was attended by 50 Members of the Bar, primarily from the central and southern regions.
The three
speakers, Dr Engku Rabiah Adawiah, Johan Lee and Dr Aznan Hasan,
covered various topics relating to legal documentation for Bai’
Bithaman Ajil, Murabahah, Isti’na, Ijarah, Mudarabah, Musharakah and
Musharakah Mutanakisah financing. Following that, the participants were
divided into groups and presented with hypothetical cases for
discussion to further enhance their understanding of the subjects.
The workshop was a success in many ways. Based on the pre- and post-workshop assessments conducted, it was evident that the participants’ knowledge on the subjects improved considerably. The participants themselves also expressed their satisfaction and agreed that they benefited tremendously from attending the workshop.
The next, and final, workshop will be held at Sungai Petani, Kedah from 23 to 25 Apr 2010. Ten more places are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, kindly contact Mazni Ibrahim by telephone at 03-2072 2818 or by email at mazni@malaysianbar.org.my by 12 Apr 2010 (Monday).
