The objective of the Islamic Finance Committee (“IFC”) is to provide training for Members of the Bar in the area of Islamic finance.
IFC was involved in the following activities to date:
(1)Meeting between IFC and the Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”) Law Harmonisation Committee (21 July 2011)
The Law Harmonisation Committee (“LHC”) is established by BNM with the aim to review existing laws in Malaysia to improve the certainty of the usage in Islamic financial transactions at domestic and international level. IFC is to assist LHC in identifying various laws which need review and are incompatible with the syariah principle. At the meeting, two of our members were invited to sit on the LHC subcommittee to review the National Land Code 1965.
(2)Ramadhan Charity Drive
In the month of Ramadhan, IFC organised a charity drive where Members of the Bar were encouraged to sponsor iftar and duit raya for needy children/orphans from Kedah. Details of this event will be replenished later.
(3)National Symposium on Islamic Banking and Finance (12 Sept 2011)
This series was organised in collaboration with Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (“AIBIM”). IFC and AIBIM successfully held the symposia in the four regions of Peninsular Malaysia (north, central, south and east coast), and Sabah and Sarawak.
