The Industrial Court Practice Committee (ICPC)’s objectives are to:

	(1)		Cater to the professional needs of Members of the Bar who make appearances in Industrial Courts; and
	(2)		Maintain the long-standing relationship with the Industrial Court Bench.

The Committee had met four times as at the writing this report.  The activities for the 2009/2010 term include:

(1) Meetings with Y.B. Dato’ Dr. S. Subramaniam, Minister of Human Resources

The Committee held several meetings with the Minister of Human Resources early this year. The Committee had discussed the working paper on the proposed Alternative Review Mechanism submitted to the Minister on 23 June 2009, the proposal for direct referral to Industrial Courts for cases under section 20 of the Industrial Relations Act 1967, and the reconciliation process in the Labour Department.  ICPC will follow-up with the Minister on these matters.

(2) Consultative Committee on Industrial Law

Committee representatives, Anand Ponnudurai and Jayasingam Poopalasingam, have been attending the Consultative Committee on Industrial Law meetings which are held every three months and chaired by the President of the Industrial Court. These meetings are also attended by most of the Industrial Court Chairpersons, and representatives from the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysian Trade Union Congress, and Malaysian Employers’ Federation.

(3) Employment Law Conference 2010

The Employment Law Conference 2010 is scheduled to be held on 27 & 28 Jan 2010 at Prince Hotel & Residence, Kuala Lumpur.  Experienced local and international speakers will present various interesting topics in line with the Conference’s theme of “Employment Law in the 21st Century - Challenges & New Horizons”.
